COMPLETE LOGISTICS SERVICES FOR MULTI MODAL HANDLING, STORAGE, Re-EXPORT AND SHIPPING OF 2 MASSIVE OFFSHORE PLATFORM RIGS FOR WORLD’S LEADING DRILLING COMPANY

Project: Multi Modal Transport and handling of 2 offshore Platform Rigs – 600HP and 700HP capacity – and their re-export to UAE.

Challenges:

  1. Finding suitable and cost efficient storage area close to Mumbai Port for safely storing the 2 Massive offshore Platform Rigs for a more than 10 month period, till their re- export from India.
  2. Completing highly complicated documentation and paperwork for the timely re-export of the Rigs, that were imported into India more than 10 years back.
  3. Transporting the 2 Rigs from two different locations on more than 125 trailers, without any delays, to Mumbai Port for timely under hook delivery.
  4. Locating a suitable self geared break bulk vessel that could ship the Massive Rigs – comprising of 438 Packages, weighing almost 2200MT with a CBM of 9500 – in one ship load from Mumbai Port to Jebel Ali Port, UAE.

Achievements:

  1. After our Client dismantled the Platform Rigs at their work location offshore, we transported them on two big supply vessels. In a seamless operation, we transported the Rigs from Offshore to Mumbai Port in about 12 Trips.
  2. At Mumbai Port, the Cargo was offloaded from the supply vessels by us using 2 nos. 250Ton capacity Tyre mounted Hydraulic Cranes.
  3. We obtained special permission from Mumbai Port to store the Rigs at the Ports’ storage area at Wadala – just 7.5 km from the Port. The Rigs were transported from Mumbai Port to their storage area at Wadala using Low beds, 70 Feet long trailers and 40 Feet high beds.
  4. The Rigs were stored at Wadala for a period of nearly 10 months. Watch keeping of the Rigs in this period was done by us.
  5. After 10 months, we completed the highly complicated documentation process for the re-export of the rigs from Mumbai customs and other statutory authorities. Since the Rigs had been imported into India more than 10 years back, this process had to be planned meticulously well in advance in close co-ordination with the statutory authorities.
  6. At the Storage location in Wadala, the Rigs were loaded back on Trailers using 100 Ton capacity Tyre mounted Telescopic Crane and 20T Forklift and transported to Mumbai Port storage area. Other components of the Rig and drill pipes were transported by us from our Client’s Warehouse at Dighode to Mumbai Port storage area.
  7. We Chartered a 17,500MT Break vessel equipped with 3 nos. .60T Cranes and mobilized it to Mumbai Port as per re-export dates given by our Client.
  8. We used about 125 trailers – Low beds, 60/70 feet long trailers and 40 feet high beds – for this transport from Wadala and Dighode to Mumbai Port.
  9. Subsequently, the Inter carting of the Cargo was done by us from Mumbai Port Storage area to under the vessels hook, safely without any vessel delays/detentions.
  10. Directly sailing from Mumbai, the vessel transported the Rig to Jebel Ali Port in UAE in 4 days, where it was discharged.

Some Interesting Facts:

  1. More than 125 trailers – Low beds, Semi low beds and high beds – were used for the transport, Inter carting and under hook delivery of the 2 Rigs at Mumbai Port.
  2. Special Charter vessel was mobilized to Mumbai Port which loaded only the 2 Platform offshore Rigs and sailed directly from Mumbai Port to Jebel Ali Port, UAE without calling any other Port enroute
  3. The Longest piece to be transported in this Project was “Longitudinal Capping Beam” measuring 24.20 m x 1.10 m x1.37 m and weighing 13.862MT.
  4. The entire “end to end” Project was completed safely, within the given time lines and without any delays, to the complete satisfaction of our client
