GloboTrans Pro completes wet tow of a Mammoth Rig from Mumbai Offshore to Bahrain

Our Client, a reputed Indian Oil and Gas Drilling Company, specializing in the field of Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration and development drilling, approached us for towing one of their Offshore Rigs from Mumbai anchorage to a shipbuilding yard in Bahrain to carry out some repair work on the Rig. The Rig, measuring a mammoth 235 feet in length, 200 feet in width with a depth of nearly 27 feet and a displacement of almost 19,000MT needed to be towed by 2 Tugs with the lead Tug having a Bollard Pull of atleast 120MT.

We came up with an ideal solution for our Client – a combination of a 155 Bollard Pull Tug for Main Towing and a 80MT Bollard Pull Tug for support. We completed the Inward formalities of the Rig from Offshore to Mumbai Port. We also completed the reversion formalities of the Rig with the Customs authorities from Coastal to foreign.

We mobilized both Tugs to alongside the massive Rig, as per Client’s given time lines at Mumbai Port Y4 Anchorage. Using our In House Engineering team, we also prepared the Bollard Pull calculations and Tow Plan of the Rig and got the same approved from Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), well before the commencement of the Tow.

All the statutory clearances and permissions from the Mumbai Port were taken by us for this Tow. The Tow started on a clear, calm day on a late November morning and the approx. 1600N.m Tow was completed safely in 18 days. The Rig was delivered at the Bahrain Offshore location, specified by the client, on schedule and to their complete satisfaction.
