Unloading, Installation and Commissioning of Hydraulic Press Lines (4×630 T & 1×1300 T) at MG Motors’s Halol, Gujarat Plant

Project: Unloading, Installation and Commissioning of Hydraulic Press Lines (4×630 T & 1×1300 T) at MG Motors’s Halol, Gujarat Plant.

Challenges:

1. Unload 288 packages including 7 Heavy Lifts consisting of 5 Crowns, 1 Bed and 1 Slide from 102 trailers. The heaviest package to be Unloaded was the 170 MT Crown.
2. Complete the Installation of Heavy Press Parts as per our Client’s very aggressive time lines.
3. Adhere to the Protocols and stringent Safety & Quality Standards set by the client.

Achievements:

1. The unloading of 288 Press Packages from all 102 trailers was done without detaining any trailer.
2. Unloading from trailers and Installation of the packages in the pit was done simultaneously thus saving precious time.
3. With our diligent planning and efforts, the Client achieved the rare distinction of Installing all the Heavy Press Packages (5 Beds, 5 Slides and 5 Crowns) within 20 days – a record feat for our client outside China.

How we did it:

By employing multiple unloading and lifting equipment including articulated Crane and Forklift simultaneously, besides using Client’s Overhead (EOT) Crane, the press parts were unloaded from Trailers. The 7 heavy packages weighing between 62 T to 170 T were Unloaded on Stool / Beams using 600T Hydraulic Gantry.

The unloading and installation of the Press parts was done simultaneously – the Beds were unloaded at the designated area and installed in the pit using the 600T Gantry. After installation of the beds, the 50T capacity EOT was used to install the tie rod and place the upright over the tie rod.

The slides were installed using EOT and all the Crowns, including the fully assembled Crown of the lead Press weighing more than 200MT, were lifted and installed using the 600T Hydraulic Gantry.
